In order to promote the CoreComm Balaton Solar Boat Challenge, the University of Pannonia announced an art competition for kindergarten and primary school children, in which we invited participants to create boat designs based on the theme of sustainability.

More than 700 entries were received, including drawings, models of ships made from recyclable materials, but also in the “poetry” category. To make the competition even more exciting, the most skilful children could win ice creams for their whole class with their artwork, courtesy of Unilever Hungary’s Algida Ice Cream Factory in Veszprém.

The main aim of the initiative, which was created in cooperation between the University of Pannonia, the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture programme, the Hungarian Sailing Association and the Municipality of Balatonalmádi, is to educate people about sustainability and to develop a responsible, environmentally aware attitude.

The first and second place went to kindergartens from Balatonfüred: the Napocska group of the Balatonfüred Old Town Kindergarten and the Babóca group of the Balatonfüred Old Town Kindergarten won the ice cream, while in third place, a total of 102 children from four groups of the Vizikék Day Kindergarten of the Ajka Municipal Kindergarten were able to enjoy a cooling ice cream.
